Baylor snaps 8-game home losing streak in Big 12 with 38-28 victory over Oklahoma State

WACO, Texas — Sawyer Robertson contributed significantly to Baylor’s 38-28 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday, throwing three touchdown passes and rushing for another score. This victory marked an end to the Bear’s eight-game losing streak at home in Big 12 matchups.

In total, Robertson and three additional players combined for an impressive 345 yards on the ground. This performance came just a week after Baylor (4-4, 2-3 Big 12) snapped an overall eight-game losing streak in conference play with a commanding victory over Texas Tech in Lubbock. Saturday’s win was particularly significant as it was their first Big 12 home victory at McLane Stadium since they defeated Kansas 35-23 on October 22, 2022. Additionally, the Bears achieved their first 300-yard rushing game in three years during this matchup.

Oklahoma State (3-5, 0-5) is currently grappling with a five-game losing streak for the first time since 2014. They managed to close the gap to 31-28 with five minutes left in the game, thanks to Ollie Gordon II, who scored two rushing touchdowns and totaled 77 yards. However, Dawson Pendergrass quickly answered back for Baylor with an impressive 55-yard touchdown run, generating momentum after bouncing off several defenders. Pendergrass finished the game with six carries for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

Robertson’s overall performance included 11 completions on 19 attempts for 222 yards, despite throwing one interception. He connected with Hal Presley for a 12-yard touchdown, Matthew Klopfenstein for a 1-yard score, and Ashtyn Hawkins on a 33-yard pass; Hawkins led the team with 74 receiving yards. Additionally, Bryson Washington contributed 78 rushing yards while Robertson added 73 on the ground, including a 41-yard touchdown run, and Richard Reese accounted for 52 yards.

For Oklahoma State, this current losing streak is particularly concerning, as there have been 13 instances of winning streaks of at least four games since their last five-game skid a decade ago. Entering the season ranked No. 17, they had slid to No. 13 before commencing Big 12 play.

Baylor’s back-to-back wins are their first since they achieved a win over Kansas at home in 2022, followed by victories at Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Coach Dave Aranda, who has faced scrutiny, could leverage this success to gain momentum as the season progresses and potentially bolster his case for remaining as head coach in 2025.

Looking ahead, Oklahoma State will play Arizona State at home next Saturday night, while Baylor will host TCU on the same evening.
