PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — In an exciting non-conference matchup on Saturday, Prairie View A&M emerged victorious against Texas A&M-Commerce with a final score of 34-27. Quarterback Jaden Johnson shone bright, throwing for three touchdown passes, while James Burns contributed significantly to the team’s success by accumulating 215 total yards and scoring three touchdowns.
The game kicked off with Johnson connecting with Shemar Savage on a 14-yard touchdown pass, setting the tone early. Texas A&M-Commerce struggled on their first possession, turning the ball over on downs after just five plays. Johnson capitalized on this opportunity, launching a spectacular 59-yard touchdown throw to Burns, quickly extending the lead to 14-0.
As the first quarter continued, Luke Jackson managed to get Texas A&M-Commerce on the scoreboard with a 35-yard field goal. Texas A&M-Commerce attempted a comeback with backup quarterback Will Madonna entering the game. Madonna delivered a strong performance, passing for 178 yards and two touchdown throws. He even managed to score on a 1-yard run with just 37 seconds remaining, closing the gap on the scoreboard. However, Prairie View A&M successfully recovered the onside kick attempt, sealing their victory.
