GREELEY, Colo. — In a decisive matchup, Keali’i Ah Yat connected on two touchdown passes while the Montana defense showcased its strength with three interceptions, leading to a commanding 24-0 shutout against Northern Colorado on Saturday.
The Grizzlies took an early lead with a 4-yard touchdown run from Eli Gillman late in the first quarter. Ah Yat later increased the margin with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Gillman in the third quarter, sealing the scoring for Montana.
Ah Yat completed 14 of his 22 passes for 149 yards and added a 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Ian Finch just before halftime, marking Finch’s first touchdown. Montgomery’s rushing attack was equally effective, with Nick Ostmo recording 107 yards on 13 carries, contributing to a total of 198 rushing yards for the team. Logan Fife had an efficient day, completing 6 of 8 passes for 48 yards.
On the other side, Northern Colorado struggled offensively, amassing only 218 total yards. Kia’i Keone attempted to lead the Bears but finished 15 of 31 passing.
With this victory, Montana improved to a 6-2 overall record and 3-1 in the Big Sky Conference. The Grizzlies have now outscored the Bears 99-0 over their last three meetings, following wins in 2021 and 2023.
