KINGSTON, R.I. — Devin Farrell contributed significantly to the Rhode Island Rams’ victory over the Maine Black Bears, producing two short rushing touchdowns, while Malik Grant made a decisive play in the fourth quarter to solidify the Rams’ 24-14 triumph. This win marks Rhode Island’s sixth consecutive victory this season.

In a pivotal moment, Farrell connected with Tommy Smith on a 46-yard pass that brought the Rams down to the Maine 3-yard line. Following a two-yard rush from Farrell himself, Grant took a direct snap and punched the ball into the end zone. After the Black Bears failed to gain any ground on their subsequent possession, Ty Groff stepped in to extend Rhode Island’s lead with a 35-yard field goal, just six minutes left on the clock.

Farrell completed 13 of his 24 passes for 202 yards while also contributing to the scoreboard with his two rushing touchdowns, which helped the Rams secure a 14-7 advantage at halftime. Grant proved to be a reliable option on the ground, gaining 87 yards on 22 carries during the match.

On the opposing side, Maine’s quarterback Carter Peevy had a challenging day, finishing 28 of 37 for 278 yards and one touchdown. Running back Brian Santana-Fish also made an impact, rushing for 89 yards and scoring once on 15 attempts. Wide receiver Montigo Moss led the receiving corps with nine catches for a total of 80 yards.

The Rhode Island defense was relentless, recording five sacks against Peevy, with two of those coming from Carson Primrose.

Maine, now with a record of 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, was aiming for its second consecutive win over a ranked opponent after defeating then-No. 5 Villanova 35-7 the previous week. As for Rhode Island, they entered the matchup ranked 16th in the FCS coaches poll.
