Memphis, Tennessee – In an exhilarating finish, Memphis edged out Charlotte with a narrow 33-28 victory, thanks to Seth Henigan’s record-setting 24-yard touchdown pass to Roc Taylor with just 30 seconds on the clock. This win marks the Tigers’ fourth consecutive triumph.

Henigan’s performance featured his second touchdown of the game, which brought his career total to 91 touchdown passes, establishing a new school record and surpassing the previous record held by Brady White.

The game took an exciting turn when Charlotte regained the lead with under two minutes remaining. However, Henigan quickly responded by guiding the Tigers down the field, completing five straight passes, culminating with Taylor’s catch just inside the left sideline of the end zone.

The 49ers (3-5, 2-2 American Athletic Conference) mounted an impressive comeback led by freshman quarterback DeShawn Purdie, who stepped in during the second half. Purdie helped his team rack up three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. At one point, Charlotte led by four points after Hahsaun Wilson dashed 18 yards for a touchdown, shortly after Purdie connected with O’Mega Blake on an impressive 57-yard completion.

Previously, Memphis (7-1, 3-1) had taken the lead with a field goal from Tristian Vandenberg, which was set up by DJ Bell’s interception at the Charlotte 8-yard line, although they were unable to capitalize with a touchdown. A safety by Memphis later concluded the scoring in the closing seconds of the game.

Henigan completed 20 of 32 passes for 212 yards, along with two touchdowns and one interception. On the ground, Mario Anderson Jr. had a standout performance with 141 rushing yards on 32 attempts, marking his fifth game this season with over 100 rushing yards. Taylor contributed significantly in the air, amassing 99 yards on six receptions.

For Charlotte, Purdie made a notable impact starting in the second half, throwing for 152 yards, along with one touchdown and an interception. Cartevious Norton added to the offense with 86 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Blake recorded a remarkable 128 yards receiving and a touchdown.
