PALLEKELE, Sri Lanka — Evin Lewis delivered an impressive performance to guide the West Indies to a victorious conclusion against Sri Lanka in the third and final one-day international held on Saturday, securing a consolation win for the team.

Lewis, who was making his return to ODI cricket for the first time since 2021, achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring an unbeaten 102 runs, clinching his fifth ODI century off just 61 deliveries. He showcased resilience, continuing to play aggressively after twisting his left ankle when he reached a score of 51.

The match had initially been disrupted by rain, which led to a delay of five hours and resulted in a reduction of overs to 23 each for both teams. In response to Sri Lanka’s innings, where they posted a total of 156 runs for 3 wickets, the West Indies successfully chased down the target, finishing with 196 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

Sri Lanka’s innings saw Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando start strongly, forming a partnership of 81 runs over 17 overs before the rain break. Nissanka, who was fortunate to survive a couple of dropped catches, reached his 15th ODI half-century, scoring 56 runs before being run out. Kusal Mendis further capitalized on the opportunity with a swift half-century made off just 19 balls, concluding his innings undefeated on 56, supported by nine boundaries along with a six.

The West Indies faced an early setback, losing their first wicket at a score of 36. However, Lewis and captain Shai Hope built a solid partnership of 72 runs, stabilizing the innings. Hope was dismissed after scoring 22, but Lewis continued to anchor the innings backed by Sherfane Rutherford. Rutherford efficiently reached his half-century, scoring an unbeaten 50 off only 26 balls, which included three sixes and four fours. During the series, he also performed well with scores of 74 and 80.

Despite West Indies’ win in the final match, the series accolades went to Sri Lanka’s captain Charith Asalanka, who was named the player of the series for his outstanding contribution of 145 runs and two wickets taken throughout the contests.
