INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The Los Angeles Rams have brought receiver Puka Nacua off injured reserve just in time for their matchup with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday evening.
The Rams, currently holding a 2-4 record, are expected to make a final decision about Nacua’s availability after observing him during pregame warmups, alongside the return of fellow receiver Cooper Kupp.
Nacua has been sidelined for the last five games due to a knee ligament sprain he suffered during the initial half of the season opener against the Detroit Lions last month.
Last season, he achieved Pro Bowl status after an impressive rookie campaign. As a fifth-round draft choice, he set several records, including the highest number of receptions (105) and receiving yards (1,486) ever recorded by a rookie, coupled with six touchdowns—a remarkable achievement in NFL history.
Moreover, Nacua established NFL records for the most receptions in a single game by a rookie, snagging 15 passes against the San Francisco 49ers, and for receiving yards in a playoff game, where he gained 181 yards against Detroit.
This year, however, his training camp was impacted by a knee injury. He managed to catch four passes totaling 35 yards during the season opener before re-injuring himself, which led to his placement on injured reserve shortly after.
Additionally, the Rams faced a setback in Week 2 when Kupp sustained an ankle injury. Coach Sean McVay’s squad has encountered challenges offensively in the absence of Stafford’s primary receiving options. So far this season, Stafford has thrown just three touchdown passes, with only two touchdowns in the last five games.
To accommodate Nacua’s return to the roster, the Rams placed linebacker Troy Reeder on injured reserve. Reeder, who plays a key role in the defense and occasionally relays plays on the field, is dealing with a hamstring injury.
Kupp is anticipated to return for the clash against the Vikings after being out for four weeks, and rumors of potential trades involving him have been circulating.
