In a heartfelt tribute, the Los Angeles Dodgers are set to honor the late Fernando Valenzuela by incorporating a commemorative patch featuring his No. 34 on their uniforms during the World Series and throughout the 2025 season.

This special circular patch will be displayed on the sleeves of the jerseys. It will feature the iconic No. 34 in Dodger blue surrounded by a white outline, all set against a black background with a blue outline. Above the number, the name “FERNANDO” will be displayed prominently in white capital letters.

Fernando Valenzuela, who achieved fame as the 1981 National League Rookie of the Year and earned the prestigious Cy Young Award, sadly passed away at the age of 63. His death occurred just one day before the 43rd anniversary of a remarkable game he pitched—an intense, 147-pitch complete game that propelled the Dodgers to victory over the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the World Series. The Dodgers had faced a tough start, losing the first two games at Yankee Stadium but ultimately triumphed in four consecutive games to secure their first championship title since 1965.

Throughout his impressive 17-season career, Valenzuela was selected as an All-Star six times and recorded a career win-loss record of 173-153. Specifically, he achieved 141 wins against 116 losses during his tenure with the Dodgers from 1980 to 1990. His colorful and vibrant personality sparked a phenomenon known as “Fernandomania,” captivating fans across the nation. Following his playing career, Valenzuela continued to be a fixture with the team, serving as a broadcaster from 2003 to 2024.
