FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A man has received a sentence of one year of home detention for his role in a shooting incident that occurred at a northeastern Indiana shopping mall last year, resulting in one individual being injured.

Quentin A. Lewis, 28, was sentenced by a magistrate in Allen County to a total of three years in custody, with two years suspended. He will spend the remaining year in the county’s home detention program, after which he will be placed on probation for two additional years.

Lewis entered a guilty plea last month for the charge of criminal recklessness, just one day prior to a scheduled pretrial conference regarding the September 2023 shooting incident at Glenbrook Square in Fort Wayne. As part of his plea agreement, a more serious charge of battery involving a deadly weapon was dropped.

The shooting took place after Lewis and the victim had a disagreement, reportedly stemming from comments made by Lewis about a woman and her children at a barbershop earlier that week. The exchange escalated, culminating in Lewis shooting the victim in the leg, leading to swift legal action against him.

In addition to his home detention, Lewis’ plea agreement stipulates that he must refrain from contacting the victim and mandates him to undergo evaluations for alcohol and substance abuse, as well as psychological assessment.

Efforts made to reach Lewis’ attorney for comments regarding the sentence have not been successful as of Thursday.
