Belarus court hands 20-year prison sentences to Ukrainian father and son for terrorism charges

In a court in Gomel, Belarus, two individuals from Ukraine, Serhiy Kabarchuk and his son Pavlo, received sentences of 20 years each for charges related to the preparation of terrorist acts.
The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, following their arrest in February, during which authorities claimed they were in the process of gathering weapons and explosives.
Subsequently, Belarusian state television aired a segment featuring the Kabarchuks, in which they purportedly stated they were following orders from Ukraine’s SBU, the country’s security service.

However, many experts and observers suspect that such public admissions in Belarus may have been coerced, reflecting the nation’s oppressive political environment.
Belarus shares extensive borders with both Ukraine and Russia, with Russian military forces stationed within Belarusian territory and participating in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
The country also accommodates an undisclosed number of Russian tactical nuclear weapons, further complicating the regional security dynamics.

As for Ukraine, there has been no immediate response concerning the convictions of the Kabarchuks.
