INGLEWOOD, Calif. — During their season opener against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday evening, the Los Angeles Clippers paid tribute to the legendary Jerry West with a heartfelt video presentation in the first quarter.

West, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, served as a consultant for the team from 2017 until his passing in June at the age of 86.

To commemorate his contributions, the Clippers have designated a memorial seat behind the basket at their new venue, the Intuit Dome, along with a court decal featuring his initials located near center court.

The Los Angeles Lakers also honored West during their season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday, showcasing a tribute video at halftime and distributing replica jerseys reflective of his era to all attendees.

West’s legacy was further represented at both games with the presence of his widow, Karen, and two of his sons, Ryan and Jonnie.

The Lakers, the team West dedicated his entire 14-year NBA career to, are wearing commemorative bands on the left shoulders of their jerseys. The bands display his number 44 in gold, symbolizing his enduring impact on the franchise.

In a remarkable achievement, West became the first player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame three times earlier this month. This honor recognized his significant contributions not just as a player, but also for his roles in the front offices of the Clippers, Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and Memphis Grizzlies.
