ISLAMABAD โ€” On Wednesday, a blast in a bustling market in Kabul resulted in injuries to 11 individuals, among them children, according to reports from a humanitarian organization.
The origin of the explosion remains uncertain, and representatives from the Taliban were not immediately available for commentary.
The explosion occurred in a market for second-hand clothing located in the Pamir Cinema area, as stated by Emergency NGO, a group operating a surgical facility in the Afghan capital.
Stefano Gennaro Smirnov, the deputy country director for Emergency in Afghanistan, revealed that both a 3-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy were among those hurt in the incident. One adult male is reported to be in critical condition.
โ€œThe blast happened at a moment when the second-hand clothing market opened, and many people rushed to enter,โ€ Smirnov explained, adding that the Pamir Cinema district is one of the most densely populated areas in Kabul. โ€œThose who have been impacted by this tragic event are likely to be enduring severe poverty.โ€
While extremist violence has escalated in Afghanistan since the Talibanโ€™s ascendance to power in 2021, the usual targets of these attacks are typically the Taliban themselves and members of the Shiite minority within the country.
