LOS ANGELES — Freddie Freeman is optimistic about making an appearance in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting lineup for the World Series against the New York Yankees.

“I have no doubts that I will be in the lineup for Game 1,” Freeman stated during a Zoom press conference on Tuesday.

As Friday approaches, he will have had a full week since he sprained his right ankle during Game 5 of the NL Championship Series against the New York Mets.

Ultimately, the decision regarding the final lineup will be made by manager Dave Roberts after consultations with the team’s front office.

The All-Star first baseman was sidelined for Games 4 and 6 of the NLCS, finishing with a batting line of 3 for 18 against the Mets, following a solid .286 performance in the NL Division Series versus the San Diego Padres.

Freeman reported that he can hit and walk without discomfort; however, his ankle becomes problematic with the initial push-off when running. He is undergoing extensive treatment for what is the first sprain of his illustrious career.

“I’m focused on reducing the inflammation as much as possible, so I can be at my best for Game 1,” he added.

Freeman sustained the injury on September 26 against the Padres while evading a tag at first base from San Diego’s Luis Arráez, which led to him sitting out the Dodgers’ final three regular-season games.
