SEATTLE — A 15-year-old boy is being held as authorities consider charges related to the tragic deaths of two adults and three young teenagers at a residence located east of Seattle. The teenager chose not to appear in court for the hearing on Tuesday, where the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office revealed that a judge found enough evidence to proceed with five counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder in the case. Additionally, an 11-year-old girl sustained injuries and is recovering in a local hospital.
During the proceedings, held at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center in Seattle, the presiding judge mandated that the teen refrain from contacting a person identified as the only surviving member of his immediate family. The injured girl was reported to be in “satisfactory condition” at Harborview Medical Center as of Tuesday, according to hospital representative Susan Gregg, who clarified that initial reports mistakenly classified her as a teenager.
Authorities have indicated that all individuals involved in the incident are believed to be related. A neighbor shared with local news channel KING-TV that the home was occupied by a couple and their five children.
The defense attorney for the 15-year-old noted in court that he has no prior criminal record and requested that the media refrain from disclosing the boy’s name until official charges are announced, a request the judge approved.
Emergency calls around 5 a.m. on Monday alerted authorities to a shooting at a residence in Fall City, an unincorporated area approximately 25 miles from Seattle.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the bodies of five individuals within the home, according to spokesperson Mike Mellis from the King County Sheriff’s Office. The deputies promptly took the teenager into custody and transported the injured girl to the hospital. Both were residents of the home, Mellis confirmed.
The boy has since been placed in King County’s juvenile detention facility, and law enforcement officials do not anticipate further arrests. Mellis mentioned that investigators suspect the deceased suffered fatal gunshot wounds; however, their identities and the specific causes of death have not yet been disclosed.
This incident marks the 32nd mass killing in the United States so far this year, as documented by a collaborative database from multiple news organizations and academic institutions.
