MEXICO CITY — On Tuesday, Kristy intensified into a hurricane in the eastern Pacific Ocean, and meteorologists predict it will stay clear of land as it develops further strength.

As of the latest reports, the hurricane was located approximately 590 miles (950 kilometers) west-southwest of Acapulco, Mexico, and was progressing westward at a speed of 18 mph (30 kph). The maximum sustained winds associated with Kristy reached 75 mph (120 kph), per information from the National Hurricane Center based in Miami.

Initially forming as a tropical storm off Mexico’s southern Pacific coast on Monday, Kristy quickly escalated to a Category 1 hurricane. Forecasts indicate the possibility of it evolving into a Category 3 storm later in the week before eventually losing strength.

Currently, Kristy is anticipated to persist over the open ocean without posing any danger to coastal regions. At this time, there are no warnings or alerts for coastal areas.
