Diana Taurasi contemplating whether to retire or continue for another season

Diana Taurasi is currently contemplating her future regarding another season in the WNBA or stepping into retirement.
The seasoned veteran and certain future Hall of Famer mentioned on Tuesday that she plans to take her time before making any decisions.
“Retirement is not something I take lightly. The moment I officially say it or announce it, it will hold significant meaning for me, whether that’s in a month or two months,” Taurasi expressed.
She also shared her ongoing conversations with her wife, Penny Taylor, and the Phoenix Mercury, indicating that she is still in the process of reflection.

The end of Taurasi’s season came when the Mercury were eliminated by the Minnesota Lynx in the first round of the playoffs, and she has remained quiet since that tough loss.
“It’s a big decision, and I truly think about it every day. I’m still giving it serious consideration, wanting to ensure I make the right choice and just taking my time,” said the 42-year-old player.
She added, “When the season concludes, the last thought on your mind is usually about the next season.”

Taurasi is encouraged by the team’s roster moves last offseason, including the additions of Natasha Cloud and Kahleah Copper, which she believes have transformed the Mercury into potential championship challengers.
Additionally, the opening of a new $100 million training center, which features her name and logo on its courts, adds to the positive developments for the team.
“With the on-court additions and improvements in the front office, I genuinely believe we will remain competitive for some time,” she stated.
Taurasi expressed a strong bond with her teammates, saying, “They are my sisters, and we’ve shared a lot of experiences together. I’ll talk with them, as there’s a lot to consider regarding the season as a whole.”

Lately, Taurasi has been candid about her struggle with eczema, which she has been managing since her college days at UConn, where she played a key role in winning three NCAA championships.
The condition has resulted in uncomfortable outbreaks of itchy, scaly skin that have affected her both on and off the court.
“This has been part of my life for many years, and I’ve shared my story to highlight how challenging it can be,” remarked the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer.
“Particularly in sports, where you are constantly in a jersey and exposed. The physical discomfort, the itchiness, and the redness—these are battles I’ve faced internally for a significant time.”

To manage her eczema, Taurasi has been using Dupixent after consultation with her dermatologist.
It’s estimated that around 2.7 million people in the United States aged six months and older struggle with uncontrolled moderate-to-severe eczema.
When the time comes for her to retire, whether now or later, Taurasi is interested in the prospect of becoming involved in team ownership.
“I really like the idea of having a role where I can influence a team,” she shared.
“Being around Mat (Ishbia) recently, I’ve seen how he has affected this entire city – it’s inspiring to witness how an owner can shift a city’s vibe and outlook. The initiatives he has put in place with the team reflect what I see as the next step for female athletes.”
