ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals have made a significant addition to their front office by bringing in Robert Cerfolio from the Cleveland Guardians as the new assistant general manager, focusing on player development and performance.
Cerfolio’s journey in baseball began with an internship in Cleveland’s baseball operations and player development department back in 2015.
This announcement comes on the heels of last month’s news that Chaim Bloom will take over the role of president of baseball operations, succeeding John Mozeliak, who has held the position since 2017 and has been general manager since 2007. The transition is set to take place after the 2025 season. With Bloom at the helm, there is a strong expectation that he will guide a comprehensive overhaul of the Cardinals’ player development strategies, particularly after the team experienced back-to-back seasons without playoff appearances.
As part of his new role, Cerfolio will be responsible for hiring both a farm director and a director of performance. In conjunction with this change, the Cardinals also announced various promotions within their organization. Matt Bayer will step up to become the senior director of baseball development, Kevin Seats will serve as the senior director of analytics, DC MacLea will take on the role of manager of video technology, and Brady Hall will act as the player development video and technology coordinator.
