JERUSALEM — U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel on Tuesday for his 11th trip to the area since the onset of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
His visit comes at a crucial time when the United States is seeking to renew cease-fire negotiations in light of the recent death of prominent Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
Blinken’s arrival coincided with Hezbollah launching a series of rockets into central Israel, which triggered air raid sirens in some of the nation’s most densely populated regions; however, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
According to the Israeli military, it detected five projectiles fired from Lebanon, most of which were intercepted by the country’s missile defense system. One rocket fell in an unoccupied area.
Israeli police confirmed that there were no damages or injuries resulting from the attacks.
In addition to the rockets targeting central regions, the Israeli military reported that approximately 15 additional projectiles were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel around the same time.
The escalation in rocket fire from Hezbollah came as Israel intensified its military operations in Lebanon, specifically targeting financial institutions linked to Hezbollah. This incident also coincided with Israeli forces continuing their ground operations in southern Lebanon.
