DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — On Monday, Russia announced it is looking into reports regarding the alleged downing of a cargo plane by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group, in the Darfur region.
The announcement from the Russian Embassy in Khartoum follows the emergence of videos on social media that appear to show the aircraft being targeted in the Malha area of northern Darfur, close to the Chad border.
According to the embassy’s statement, there is a possibility that Russian nationals were present on the aircraft at the time of the incident.
