England’s white-ball cricket captain, Jos Buttler, will be absent from the upcoming one-day international (ODI) series against the West Indies due to a recent injury setback. In his place, Liam Livingstone has been appointed as the team captain for this series.
Buttler’s absence comes after England reported that he experienced a “slight setback in his rehabilitation” concerning a calf injury. This injury had previously sidelined him during last month’s Australian white-ball tour in England. As a result, he will miss the three-match ODI series that is set to begin next week.
Despite this setback, there is optimism surrounding Buttler’s recovery, with expectations that he will make a return in time for the five-match T20 series against the West Indies, which kicks off on November 9. This will provide him with an opportunity to rejoin his teammates after the ODIs.
This will be the first occasion that Livingstone will lead the ODI team, following a previous series where Harry Brook captained the ODIs, and Phil Salt took charge during the T20 matches against Australia.
