WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden celebrated the introduction of an eagerly anticipated revamped public tour of the White House during a dinner event on Sunday.
The details of the updated tour are set to be revealed on Monday.
In his remarks to attendees, President Biden emphasized the importance of inspiring future generations to contribute to the ongoing story of the White House. He referred to himself and Jill as “temporary renters” of “the People’s House,” highlighting their imminent departure as he decided against pursuing a second term in July.
Jill Biden, who spearheaded the tour’s redesign, remarked that while the evening marked the conclusion of a significant phase of their work, it also marked the beginning of an exciting new era for public tours at the White House.
She expressed her gratitude, stating, “It’s been the honor of my life to serve as your first lady.”
The updates come at a time when Washington, D.C., is experiencing its shoulder season—a transitional period between the height of tourism and the quieter months—as well as with an approaching presidential election that may lead to a change in administration.
In the past year, a new attraction designed to enhance visitors’ experience of the White House has emerged.
Launched last September, this new tourist destination offers visitors a detailed replica of President Biden’s Oval Office, located at The People’s House: A White House Experience. Since the actual Oval Office is not included in the official White House tour route, this new installation allows guests a rare glimpse into the president’s workspace.
Tours of the White House remain free and can be organized through the official White House website or through a member of Congress.
