In Dayton, Ohio, law enforcement fatally shot a man who allegedly brandished a weapon following a reported domestic disturbance, according to officials.
Police were dispatched to a residence shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Saturday after a woman contacted them, claiming that a man threatened to take her life.
Authorities revealed that there had been previous calls regarding mental health issues at this location, and upon arriving, the officers were made aware of the man’s violent history and mental health challenges.
Shortly thereafter, the man returned to the property in a vehicle and was observed carrying a firearm.
The police attempted to de-escalate the confrontation for nearly half an hour, but ultimately, they discharged their weapons after stating that the man “brandished” the gun.
First aid was administered to the man at the scene, but he later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
The police have not released his identity at this time.
Maj. Paul Saunders confirmed to WHIO-TV that the incident involved officers from Dayton and a Moraine officer.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will oversee the inquiry into the shooting, while the department’s bureau of professional standards will conduct its own administrative review.
