HAMILTON, N.Y. — Marco Maldonado had an impressive performance, rushing for a personal best of 112 yards and scoring a touchdown as Colgate defeated Georgetown 38-28 on Saturday afternoon.
Maldonado’s significant 25-yard touchdown run put the Raiders ahead 28-14 late in the third quarter. Although Georgetown’s Danny Lauter responded by throwing two touchdown passes, the Raiders (2-5, 1-1 in the Patriot League) managed to maintain their lead thanks to Chris Gee’s 21-yard touchdown run and Luke Vogeler’s successful 42-yard field goal.
Jake Stearney contributed to the Raiders’ offense by passing for 195 yards and registering one touchdown. The Hoyas’ Lauter had a standout game with 272 yards of passing and four touchdown throws, including two passes caught by Jimmy Kibble, who totaled 128 yards receiving.
Tymir Wynn played a crucial defensive role for Colgate, making two interceptions, one of which occurred in the end zone with just two minutes remaining in the game after Georgetown had advanced close to the goal line.
Colgate secured the lead permanently when freshman quarterback Alaks Sitkowski made his debut by scoring on a 21-yard run early in the second half, giving the Raiders a 21-14 advantage.
The historical matchup highlights Colgate’s dominance over Georgetown, as the Raiders have now won 20 out of 21 meetings, maintaining an undefeated home record of 10-0 against the Hoyas.
