THIBODAUX, La. — In a convincing performance on Saturday, Nicholls State University triumphed over winless Northwestern State, achieving a 20-0 victory. Quarterback Pat McQuaide threw for 186 yards and tossed two touchdowns, while running back Collin Guggenheim notched 129 rushing yards, surpassing the 3,000-yard milestone for his career.

This victory marked Guggenheim as the second player in the program’s history to reach over 3,000 career rushing yards, highlighting his consistency as he recorded 100 or more rushing yards for the 11th time in his career.

The Colonels improved their record to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Southland Conference, securing a shutout for the second time this season after previously defeating Mississippi Valley State 66-0 on September 21.

McQuaide began the scoring by connecting with Miequle Brock for a 4-yard touchdown with just 2:23 remaining in the first quarter. After Northwestern State struggled to gain momentum and went three-and-out on their next possession, Nicholls seized the opportunity to extend their lead. McQuaide found Lee Negrotto on a 23-yard pass for another touchdown shortly thereafter.

Kicker Gabe Showalter contributed to the score with two field goals, converting from 35 and 39 yards out, further solidifying Nicholls’ advantage.

Meanwhile, Northwestern State is enduring a tough season under first-year head coach Blaine McCorkle, having recorded no victories thus far with an overall record of 0-8 and 0-3 in the conference. Their current losing streak extends to 16 games, a stretch that dates back to the 2022 season, and the team is attempting to rebuild after having canceled their previous season.
