The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) announced on Thursday that it is taking the serious allegations of sexual assault involving eight former players with utmost concern and has pledged to assist with any ongoing police investigations.
According to a report from CTV aired on Wednesday, a 32-year-old woman recounted an incident from November 2014 where she claimed she was sexually assaulted by eight players in a residential setting associated with a 19-year-old player she was dating at the time. Notably, the woman stated that some of these individuals later went on to play in the NHL.
Earlier this year, the woman indicated that she had filed a complaint with the Ontario Provincial Police regarding the incident. The OHL indicated it became aware of these sexual assault claims for the first time on Wednesday, shortly before the media report was released.
The National Hockey League (NHL) responded to the revelations, expressing deep concern over any allegations of this nature. However, the NHL has stated that they do not possess any information beyond what was reported in the media.
CTVs report refrained from disclosing the identities of the players implicated in the allegations, and it is important to note that these claims have yet to be substantiated in a courtroom setting.
This development arrives amidst ongoing investigations faced by Hockey Canada concerning sexual assault allegations connected to players from its 2016 and 2003 national junior teams.
