Universal Orlando Resort is set to debut its fourth theme park in central Florida, with a grand opening scheduled for May 22, just before the Memorial Day holiday next year. This new addition, called Universal Epic Universe, is sure to heighten the rivalry with Disney in the theme park hub of the United States.
The new park will feature various themed areas inspired by popular franchises, including Harry Potter, Super Nintendo, and “How to Train Your Dragon,” along with iconic monster movie brands. Officials from Universal expressed their excitement about this significant expansion for the resort. Karen Irwin, the president and chief operating officer of Universal Orlando Resort, emphasized that this moment marks a crucial development for the destination.
Starting next week, tickets and vacation packages for the new theme park will be made available. Initially, guests holding multi-day passes will be restricted to visiting Epic Universe on only one day, acknowledging expectations of high demand. Visitors will also have the option to experience Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and the Volcano Bay water park during their additional days through multi-day ticket offerings.
In conjunction with the park’s opening, the Universal Helios Grand Hotel will also welcome guests, expanding the accommodation options at the resort to a total of 11 hotels.
Universal’s primary competitor in the Orlando region, Walt Disney World, also operates four theme parks and has plans for significant growth. Disney representatives have hinted at potential investments of up to $17 billion to enhance their Florida property, which may include the addition of a fifth theme park.
