Bayern Munich and Manchester City secure victories in Women’s Champions League group stage

Bayern Munich and Manchester City both secured their second consecutive victories in the group stage of the Women’s Champions League on Wednesday, solidifying their strong starts in the competition.

Bayern triumphed with a 2-0 victory in a rain-drenched match against Juventus, bouncing back from a recent setback that ended their almost two-year unbeaten streak in the German league.

Meanwhile, Manchester City also enjoyed success, defeating St. Pölten 3-2 just one week after a notable 2-0 win against defending champions Barcelona.

City faced some difficulties around halftime during their match in Austria, but managed to clinch the winning goal in the 80th minute as Mary Fowler nodded in from a corner kick right in front of the goal.

Bayern’s Pernille Harder once again found the back of the net, scoring late in the match to complement her impressive hat trick from their previous opening game, where they prevailed 5-2 against Arsenal.

Harder capitalized on a loose ball in front of the net following a corner, marking her goal in the 73rd minute, which mirrored a volleyed shot by Linda Dallman that opened the scoring in the 17th minute.

Manchester City made an early impact in their match, with Alanna Kennedy launching a powerful shot from 25 yards that put them ahead within the first five minutes. However, they struck the woodwork twice before St. Pölten caught up in the 40th minute. Melanie Brunnthaler reacted promptly to a bouncing ball after a corner, scoring with a close-range effort.

St. Pölten took the lead in the 53rd minute, thanks to a stunning volley from midfield player Kamila Dubcová, who received the ball with her back to the net and quickly turned to unleash a powerful left-footed shot.

Just four minutes later, City equalized when Aoba Fujino connected with a looping cross to fire off a first-time shot, keeping the match competitive.

In other Wednesday fixtures, Barcelona welcomed Hammarby while Arsenal hosted Vålerenga, continuing the exciting play in this prestigious tournament.
