DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Plans have been unveiled to construct the second Sphere in Abu Dhabi, marking the expansion of this innovative venue following the successful launch of the first one in Las Vegas.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, in collaboration with Sphere Entertainment Co., made the announcement on Tuesday, revealing their intent to introduce a Sphere to the Middle East region.

Details regarding the financial aspects of the project were not disclosed, nor was the specific location for the new Sphere within Abu Dhabi provided. On Wednesday, inquiries directed at both the Sphere representatives and the Abu Dhabi government regarding further details went unanswered.

The inaugural Sphere, located in Las Vegas, was completed with a staggering investment of $2.3 billion and opened its doors in 2023. This venue has swiftly become the city’s priciest entertainment site, featuring a high-resolution LED screen that encircles approximately half of the 17,500-seat audience capacity. Since its opening, it has hosted a variety of events, ranging from concerts to sporting competitions.

Abu Dhabi has been actively working to distinguish itself as a unique travel destination, particularly in comparison to its neighboring emirate, Dubai. The United Arab Emirates, a wealthy federation comprised of seven sheikhdoms on the Arabian Peninsula, is also set to launch its first casino shortly.

Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that several announced projects within the UAE have faced challenges, experiencing delays or failing to materialize altogether, particularly during times of economic instability.
