Former husband of ‘Real Housewives’ star sentenced to seven years for enlisting mobster to attack her partner

NEWARK, N.J. — On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Thomas Manzo, the former spouse of “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Dina Manzo, to seven years in prison. His conviction stems from hiring an alleged mobster to attack Dina’s boyfriend in exchange for hosting the attacker’s extravagant wedding reception.

Thomas Manzo, 59, from Franklin Lakes, will also face three years of supervised release following the completion of his prison term. U.S. District Judge Susan Wigenton imposed this sentence after a federal jury found him guilty of various charges, including conspiracy, falsifying documents, and engaging in a violent crime related to racketeering.

Federal prosecutors detailed that Manzo contracted John Perna, identified as a soldier in the Lucchese Crime Family, to carry out the assault on Dina Manzo’s boyfriend in July 2015. During the attack, the boyfriend was reportedly beaten with an object. Following the incident, Perna’s wedding reception took place the next month at a restaurant in Paterson, partially owned by Thomas Manzo, as per the prosecutors’ account.

Perna had previously accepted a plea deal in December 2020, admitting to his involvement in the violent crime associated with racketeering, and he received a 2½-year prison sentence. He completed his sentence and was released in August 2023. Additionally, Dina Manzo’s boyfriend has since become her husband.
