LeBron calls his collaboration with Steph in Paris ‘beyond amazing,’ but uncertain if it will occur again

LeBron James recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Stephen Curry during the Paris Olympics, resulting in more than just a gold medal for the all-time leading scorer in NBA history.

“It was everything and more,” James expressed earlier this week, just before his team, the Los Angeles Lakers, headed out for a pair of preseason matchups against Curry’s Golden State Warriors. “I was super excited to finally be part of a win-or-die scenario alongside him,” he recalled. “Participating in the Olympics fulfilled a dream I always had, to be on the court with Steph. The memories we created will last a lifetime.”

When prompted about the possibility of teaming up with Curry again in the future, James was noncommittal, saying, “I have no idea.”

Both players stand as icons of their generation, and their rivalry has been fierce. They clashed in four consecutive NBA Finals from 2015 to 2018, with Curry’s Warriors coming out on top in three of those matchups against James’ Cavaliers. Up until the Paris Games, they had only been teammates during annual All-Star events. However, their roles during the Olympics were critical to securing victory for the U.S. James recorded a standout triple-double in the semifinal against Serbia, while Curry showcased his sharpshooting by hitting crucial three-pointers to seal the gold against France.

At 39, James has stated that the Olympics will mark the end of his international career, which suggests that any future collaboration with Curry would need to take place in the NBA. This scenario seems improbable given his commitment to the Lakers for the next two seasons, particularly as he plans to play alongside his son, Bronny. Curry, on the other hand, is signed with the Warriors for another three seasons.

James has expressed his desire to conclude his career with the Lakers, while Curry has voiced a commitment to staying with the franchise that drafted him in 2009. Even if their paths never cross in the same uniform again, James maintains a deep respect for Curry.

“I really appreciate what Steph has contributed to this game,” James noted. “He’s made an impact on his team, his community, and fans around the world through his character and his playing style. Being able to witness his work ethic and dedication to his craft firsthand leaves you with a profound respect that shouldn’t be taken lightly.”

The Lakers will take on the Warriors on Tuesday night in Las Vegas, followed by another meeting on Friday night in San Francisco.
