LOS ANGELES — Clayton Kershaw has confirmed his intention to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers for an 18th season in the 2024 campaign.
The accomplished pitcher, who has secured the NL Cy Young Award three times, is currently absent from the playoffs due to a bone spur in his left big toe, an injury that also limited him throughout the last month of regular-season play.
At 36 years old, Kershaw made minimal appearances on the mound this year, managing only seven starts while posting a record of 2-2 and an ERA of 4.50—both of which are the lowest in his career.
Following shoulder surgery last November, Kershaw’s recovery period extended until late July. Alarmingly, by the end of August, he found himself on the injured list again due to the toe issue.
In a recent pre-game interview on Fox, Kershaw expressed optimism, stating, “My shoulder and elbow, everything, my arm feels great.” He also reflected on the tough luck he’s had this year, specifically mentioning his foot injury. “I don’t want to have surgery and then shut it down. I’m going to come back next year and give it a go and see how it goes,” he added.
In February, he inked a one-year contract worth $10 million, which includes a player option for the 2025 season.
Kershaw has dedicated his entire professional career to the Dodgers, although various injuries have sidelined him for extended periods in recent years.
