ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys are facing significant challenges at home, as they suffered their fourth consecutive defeat at AT&T Stadium, falling 47-9 to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. This loss marks a historic low for the franchise, as they have become the first team since 2000 to be down by 14 points or more at halftime in four straight home games. In every one of those matches, they have trailed by a minimum of 22 points.
What adds to the shock of this downward spiral is the fact that prior to a 48-32 playoff loss at home against the Green Bay Packers on January 14, Dallas had an impressive winning streak of 16 consecutive home games over two seasons. This achievement placed them alongside the New England Patriots as one of the few teams to maintain such dominance at home since 2000. They were also on the verge of equaling their franchise record of 18 straight home wins set from 1979 to 1981.
Currently, the Cowboys hold a 3-3 record this season, but interestingly, all their victories have come on the road. The 38-point defeat to Detroit is now recorded as the largest loss at AT&T Stadium, which opened its doors in 2009. Historically, the team experienced only three other home losses by a wider margin, the latest being a 43-3 blowout against Minnesota at Texas Stadium back in 1988.
As they head into November, the Cowboys are left without a victory at home and will face two consecutive away games following their upcoming bye week. Fortunately for them, six out of their last nine regular-season contests will be played at home, with the next one scheduled for November 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
In the game against Detroit, which constitutes the last team to secure a win in Arlington back on December 30, the Cowboys found themselves down 27-6 by halftime. Although Dallas initially led with a 3-0 score, they were shut out for a touchdown at home for the first time since they suffered a 19-3 defeat to Tampa Bay in the opener of the previous 2022 season. That particular loss preceded their remarkable 16-game winning streak.
In the playoff elimination match that capped off last season, the Cowboys fell into a 27-0 hole before halftime. They kicked off this season with a solid 33-17 win over the Cleveland Browns; however, their first home game saw the New Orleans Saints score touchdowns on their opening six possessions, leading to a 44-19 win. The Cowboys also faced a tough battle with Baltimore, who started strong with a 28-6 lead, but Dallas managed to cut the deficit with 19 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.
