Ruth Chepngetich from Kenya delivered a stunning performance at the Chicago Marathon held on Sunday, shattering the previous world record by nearly two minutes with a remarkable time of 2:09:56.

At just 30 years old, Chepngetich broke the record that was held by Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa, who had completed the marathon in 2:11:53 during the 2023 Berlin Marathon.

With this achievement, Chepngetich makes history as the first female marathon runner to finish the race in under 2 hours and 10 minutes. The prestigious 26.2-mile marathon kicked off and concluded at Grant Park in Chicago, drawing attention to her outstanding feat.
