Emirates Team New Zealand has established a commanding 3-0 advantage over INEOS Britannia in the finals of the 37th America’s Cup, which follows a first-to-seven wins format. The latest race took place on Sunday, further solidifying the Kiwis’ dominance in the competition.

During the race, the British team faced a significant setback due to a penalty incurred for not maintaining a safe distance when the two boats were nearly in collision during the pre-start maneuvering. This resulted in a 75-meter disadvantage at the start for Britannia, giving New Zealand an added edge.

With a swift performance, New Zealand’s Taihoro foiling yacht completed the six laps in impressive fashion, finishing the race 52 seconds ahead of their competitor. As the Kiwis crossed the finish line along the Barcelona coastline, Britannia was trailing by over 600 meters, marking a disappointing outcome for the British team.

Race 4 is set to occur later on Sunday, possibly shifting the momentum in this high-stakes regatta.

On the previous day, Britannia experienced technical difficulties when a battery failure occurred just minutes prior to the start of Race 1, which further complicated their challenge. New Zealand seized the opportunity, dominating both of the opening races to achieve a flawless 2-0 start.

This year, New Zealand is on a quest to secure the Auld Mug for the third consecutive time and the fifth overall in its storied history. Conversely, it is worth noting that Britain has yet to claim this illustrious trophy in its 173 years of competition.
