UC Davis delivered an impressive performance, overwhelming Cal Poly with a decisive 56-10 victory in a Big Sky Conference clash on Saturday night. Miles Hastings was a standout, throwing three of his four touchdown passes during the first half of the game. This win improves UC Davis’s record to 6-1, maintaining their undefeated streak in conference play at 3-0.
Hastings came into the game as the No. 3 ranked passer in total yards and added an impressive 458 yards to his tally, completing an astounding 27 of 30 passes. This brings his season total to 2,186 yards over the course of seven games. The Aggies wasted no time, driving 94 yards in just four plays to kick off the game, culminating in a 7-0 lead when Hastings connected with Chaz Davis for a pair of passes, one for 73 yards and another for 14 yards.
Cal Poly managed to get on the scoreboard thanks to a 40-yard field goal by Noah Serna. However, UC Davis quickly took control, scoring three touchdowns within a swift three-minute stretch, establishing a dominant 28-3 lead by the start of the second quarter. Lan Larison capped off a 10-play, 65-yard drive with a short 2-yard touchdown run. Just moments later, Rex Connors intercepted a Bo Kelly pass and dashed 35 yards for another touchdown. Hastings then found Samuel Gbatu Jr. for a 44-yard touchdown with just 26 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
As the second quarter unfolded, Hastings continued his excellent play, throwing a 23-yard touchdown to Larison. Although Richie Watts scored a 2-yard touchdown for Cal Poly, Larison answered back with a spectacular 41-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 42-10 by halftime.
Lan Larison had a remarkable game, carrying the ball 13 times for 76 yards, scoring two touchdowns, and catching five passes for an additional 90 yards and a touchdown. Chaz Davis also contributed significantly, registering four receptions for 102 yards. On the receiving front, Stacy Dobbins had six catches for 91 yards, while Trent Tompkins secured eight receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown.
For the Mustangs, Bo Kelly completed 12 of 21 attempts for 135 yards but was hampered by an interception. Michael Briscoe was a key target, catching four passes for 103 yards to lead Cal Poly’s receiving corps.
