NEW YORK — Clayton Keller netted his second goal of the evening at 4:05 of overtime, leading the Utah Hockey Club to a thrilling 6-5 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday night, marking the team’s third consecutive win in as many games.

Barret Hayton, Jack McBain, Kevin Stenlund, and Dylan Guenther also contributed goals for Utah, while Connor Ingram demonstrated strong goaltending with 29 saves.

Hayton has managed to score in each of Utah’s games so far, and Guenther stands out with a remarkable five goals.

On the other end, Artemi Panarin shone for New York, scoring twice and continuing his impressive performance from last season when he totaled 49 goals and 120 points. K’Andre Miller, Braden Schneider, and Will Cuylle each added goals for the Rangers. Defensively, Adam Fox provided three assists, and Igor Shesterkin recorded 19 saves in net.

The Highlights

Utah is maintaining its momentum following its relocation to Salt Lake City from Arizona last spring. The franchise, previously known as the Coyotes, has preserved its roster, coaching staff, and support personnel during the transition. The NHL has classified Utah as a new franchise, which means the team’s previous records will reflect only what was accomplished while in Arizona.

The Rangers, on the other hand, find themselves struggling, having lost three times in their last six home openers, with a current record of 3-1-2 in those games.

Turning Point

A significant moment in the game occurred in the second period when the Rangers thought they had taken a 3-2 lead thanks to a shot from rookie defenseman Victor Mancini. However, the goal was waived off due to interference from forward Matt Rempe on Ingram. Just over a minute later, Keller found the back of the net while both teams were skating 4-on-4.

Statistical Insight

Keller, recently appointed as the captain of Utah, has managed to register points in all three of the team’s opening games. Additionally, Logan Cooley of Utah tallied an assist, bringing his total to five assists across the first three games.

Looking Ahead

In the upcoming matches, the Rangers are set to host the Detroit Red Wings on Monday, while the Utah Hockey Club will continue their road trip with a matchup against New Jersey.
