LEXINGTON, Ky. — During the second quarter of Saturday night’s game against Kentucky, Vanderbilt edge rusher Miles Capers suffered an injury while attempting to make a tackle. He was quickly placed on a flat board and removed from the field on a stretcher.
Capers found himself caught under a mass of players while trying to tackle Wildcats running back Demie Sumo-Karngbaye, lying on the field for a brief period following the play. Medical staff from Vanderbilt promptly arrived, and the stadium fell into silence as teammates and competitors alike observed the situation, with many kneeling in prayer as a wooden board was prepared for his transport. Shortly thereafter, a stretcher was brought to the scene.
After being stabilized, Capers was carefully placed on the stretcher and transported off the field. A representative from Vanderbilt football mentioned that he was taken to a hospital for imaging as a precautionary measure, although they did not disclose his specific condition or the name of the hospital where he was treated.
In a heartfelt display of camaraderie, Capers’ teammates gathered around him, offering support for the senior player. Recently selected as the Southeastern Conference’s defensive lineman of the week following an impressive performance in a notable victory over top-ranked Alabama, Capers contributed significantly with a strip sack and a forced fumble that helped lead to a touchdown. He is currently ranked fourth on the team with 22 total tackles and is tied for the top position with 4.5 tackles for loss.
