COLUMBUS, Ohio — Alexandru Irinel Matan showcased a stunning performance with a hat trick, following an early goal from defender DeJuan Jones, as the Columbus Crew secured a decisive 4-0 win against the New England Revolution on Saturday night.

Jones opened the scoring for Columbus (18-6-9) just five minutes into the match, utilizing assists from Aziel Jackson and Dylan Chambost to find the net against his former team. This marked Jones’ second goal in nine appearances for the Crew, since his transfer from New England (9-20-4). Notably, Jackson contributed his third assist in eight games after joining from St. Louis City.

Entering the match, Matan had only one goal this season, with his prior goal coming during 31 appearances last year. The assist provided by Jones was also his first of the current campaign.

On the other side, Aljaz Ivacic recorded four saves for the Revolution.

Looking ahead, the Crew will face the New York Red Bulls in an important Decision Day match on October 19, while the Revolution will conclude their season on the road against Inter Miami on the same day.
