In a decisive victory on Saturday, Southern Utah showcased an impressive performance against Eastern Kentucky, winning the game 42-21. Targhee Lambson was a standout player for Southern Utah, rushing for 170 yards while securing three touchdowns. Jackson Berry also made a significant impact, throwing for three touchdown passes during the matchup.
The first half ended with Southern Utah leading 14-6, but Eastern Kentucky leveled the playing field early in the third quarter. Joshua Carter scored on a 2-yard run, coupled with a successful two-point conversion, bringing the game to a tie at 14. However, Southern Utah quickly regained control with three unanswered touchdowns. Berry connected with Devin Downing on a 12-yard touchdown pass, followed by Lambson’s 8-yard rushing touchdown and a 38-yard connection from Berry to Shane Carr.
In response, Eastern Kentucky’s Matt Morrissey found Dequan Stanley for a 9-yard touchdown pass. Nevertheless, Lambson capped off the scoring for Southern Utah with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, helping to secure the win for the Thunderbirds, who improved their record to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the United Athletic Conference.
Berry finished the game with 204 passing yards after completing 13 of his 23 attempts, while the Thunderbirds collectively racked up 278 rushing yards. Meanwhile, Morrissey had a solid performance, completing 24 of 36 passes for 207 yards, adding one touchdown and one interception to his stats. Overall, Southern Utah significantly outperformed Eastern Kentucky in total yardage, finishing with 482 yards compared to their opponents’ 276.
