FORT COLLINS, Colo. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, Colorado State triumphed over San Jose State with a final score of 31-24, largely thanks to a standout performance from Avery Morrow, who rushed for 100 yards and scored two touchdowns. Armani Winfield also made a significant impact, transforming a short pass into a decisive 62-yard touchdown run.
Morrow’s second touchdown came from a short two-yard run, and Jordan Noyes contributed a remarkable career-long 58-yard field goal, pushing the Rams ahead 24-14 in the fourth quarter. However, San Jose State fought back with a 21-yard touchdown run by Floyd Chalk, narrowing the gap.
Just moments later, Winfield executed a perfect crossing route from left to right, catching a pass at the line of scrimmage before sprinting down the right sideline for a pivotal touchdown that secured the game. The Spartans managed to respond with a field goal with only 66 seconds remaining, but Colorado State successfully recovered the ensuing onside kick, sealing their victory.
The teams entered halftime tied at 14-14, with a momentous 85-yard fumble return by DJ Harvey of San Jose State occurring in the last minute of the second quarter, which set the tone for a competitive second half.
Colorado State, now at 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the Mountain West Conference, took the lead after Morrow finished a 91-yard drive with his second touchdown run. Quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi completed 22 of 30 passes for 269 yards, despite throwing one interception. Winfield was a standout receiver, catching six passes for 108 yards and also contributing a 23-yard touchdown earlier in the match, putting the Rams ahead 14-7 at the start of the second quarter.
For the Spartans, Walker Eget completed 22 of 30 passes for 256 yards, while Emmett Brown came in later to throw for 91 yards on 8 of 14 attempts, including a touchdown pass of 27 yards to Nick Nash that tied the score at 7.
