Sean Brown delivered two touchdown passes in the final quarter, helping Towson rally from a two-point deficit to secure a 28-23 victory against Norfolk State in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
After suffering consecutive losses to highly-ranked opponents, including a narrow 14-13 defeat against No. 5 Villanova and a 41-24 loss to No. 2 North Dakota State, the Tigers (3-3, 1-1 Coastal Athletic Association) have bounced back with two consecutive wins, which includes an impressive 34-27 upset over No. 12 William & Mary.
Entering the fourth quarter down 16-14, Brown connected with Jaceon Doss in the corner of the end zone, successfully executing a two-point conversion to take a 22-16 lead. Just five minutes later, Carter Runyon made an impressive leaping catch despite being double-teamed, extending the Tigers’ lead to 28-16.
Prior to the thrilling fourth quarter, Brown had set up a touchdown by throwing a 57-yard pass to Sam Reynolds, leading to John Dunmore’s 3-yard touchdown catch that gave Towson a 14-10 advantage at halftime. The Spartans (2-6) managed to take the lead in the third quarter when Vinson Berry connected with Elyjah Mitchell for a 43-yard touchdown, bringing the score to 16-14.
