PHILADELPHIA — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, Malachi Hosley showcased his talents by rushing for 146 yards and scoring two touchdowns, while Aidan Sayin threw for 190 yards along with one touchdown, leading Pennsylvania to a 31-21 victory over Bucknell. This win marked a significant milestone for head coach Ray Priore, who achieved his 50th career victory with the Quakers.
With this triumph, Priore joined the ranks of the five head coaches in the long and storied 147-season history of Penn football to reach the 50-win mark. The victory not only reflects Priore’s success but also continued Penn’s dominance over Bucknell, bringing their winning streak against the Bison to ten consecutive games dating back to 2003. With this win, Penn improved to 2-2 for the season, while Bucknell fell to 3-3.
Penn displayed a strong performance in the second half, scoring touchdowns on their first three possessions. After a solid 42-yard return by Julien Stoke on the second-half kickoff, Hosley capitalized on the favorable field position, charging in from the 32-yard line to give Penn a 17-7 lead. He made a notable play as he powerfully stiff-armed a defender at the 5 before successfully diving into the end zone.
Bucknell’s response faltered when quarterback Ralph Rucker IV fumbled the ball on their next possession, allowing Sam Carlson to pounce on the loose ball. Hosley struck again shortly after, finishing off a seven-play drive that covered 62 yards with a 13-yard touchdown run, extending Penn’s lead to 24-7.
After Bucknell scored a touchdown, Sayin connected with Jared Richardson, who was wide open in the middle of the field, for a 49-yard touchdown reception that pushed Penn ahead 31-14. Tariq Thomas contributed two touchdowns for Bucknell during the game, while teammate Josh Gary had an impressive outing, making 13 receptions for a total of 137 yards.
