BUFFALO, N.Y. — C.J. Ogbonna made a significant impact by scoring three touchdowns, while Al-Jay Henderson racked up 142 rushing yards, leading Buffalo to a convincing 30-15 victory over Toledo on Saturday.
The scoring began with Buffalo, as Victor Snow barreled in from the two-yard line to cap off an impressive eight-play, 81-yard drive, establishing a 7-0 lead, which would remain unchallenged in the first half. Upon returning from halftime, the Bulls (4-2, 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference) quickly expanded their lead. Ogbonna connected with Jake Orlando for a two-yard touchdown pass, making it a two-score game.
Buffalo intensified their grip on the game when a Toledo fumble in their own territory resulted in a critical turnover. After recovering the ball at the Rockets’ two-yard line, Ogbonna took it in for a touchdown on the very next play, extending the Bulls’ lead to 21-0.
Toledo (4-2, 1-1) managed to respond during their subsequent possession, with quarterback John Alan Richter throwing a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jerjuan Newton, finally putting points on the board for the Rockets. However, Buffalo answered back with a solid drive that concluded with Ogbonna scoring again, this time from one yard out after a nine-play, 49-yard advancement.
Richter recorded a total of 227 passing yards and tossed two touchdown passes, both of which were caught by Newton, who accumulated an impressive 159 receiving yards on the game.
Buffalo has now triumphed in four of their last five encounters with Toledo, and this victory marked the Bulls’ first 3-0 start at home since the 2020 season. The 2013 season represents the only other occasion when Buffalo began with three straight home wins since moving to the FBS level in 1999.
