OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — In an impressive display on Saturday, quarterback Ethan Greenwood showcased his skills by rushing for 184 yards and scoring a touchdown, while also throwing for another, leading Long Island University to a 31-7 victory over Stonehill. This win marks LIU’s first triumph of the season.
With this victory, Long Island (1-6, 1-1 in the Northeast Conference) broke a streak of losses, having previously suffered defeat against Stonehill in their season finale last year. The last time the team secured a win was back on November 11, when they defeated Wagner with a score of 49-14.
The team’s ground attack was potent, as a total of five rushers combined for an impressive 353 yards on 60 carries, finding the end zone three times. Pat Bowen led the rushing effort with 15 carries accumulating 67 yards and one touchdown, while Ludovick Choquette contributed 64 yards on 12 rushes.
Greenwood’s scoring contributions began late in the first quarter with a 32-yard rushing touchdown, setting the tone for the game. He also connected with Michael Love on a crucial 16-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter, securing the lead for Long Island.
In terms of passing, Greenwood completed 3 of 12 throws for 57 yards. On the opposing side, Jack O’Connell offered some challenges for Stonehill, completing 8 of 13 passes for 112 yards, including one touchdown and one interception. Stonehill currently holds a record of 1-4 and shares a 1-1 mark in conference play.
Four of LIU’s final scoring drives were notable, lasting over 11 plays each and taking a minimum of five minutes off the clock, showcasing their effective ball control and ability to sustain drives.
