Walker stars with 198 rushing yards and 3 TDs as Wisconsin routs Rutgers 42-7

In an impressive display, Tawee Walker rushed for a personal record of 198 yards and found the end zone three times, leading Wisconsin to a commanding 42-7 victory over Rutgers on Saturday. This win marked the second consecutive week that Wisconsin demonstrated dominance on both offense and defense.

Braedyn Locke contributed significantly with a passing performance of 240 yards and one touchdown, along with a late touchdown run. The Badgers improved their season record to 4-2 and 2-1 in the Big Ten, continuing their undefeated streak against the Scarlet Knights, who now also sit at 4-2 but with a 1-2 conference record, marking their second consecutive loss.

Walker’s standout performance included touchdown runs of 2, 9, and 55 yards; his last run not only set a personal best but also accounted for the team’s longest rush of the season. With eight touchdowns over the past three games, Walker has established himself as a force on the field. Additionally, Darrion Dupree added a 2-yard touchdown run, helping the Badgers outgain Rutgers 549 total yards to 271.

Rutgers’ Kyle Monangai attempted to shift the momentum late in the game, scoring a 13-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to avert a shutout, having previously been stopped on a critical fourth-down play at the Wisconsin 10-yard line. Monangai, last season’s Big Ten rushing champion, managed only 72 rushing yards against a staunch Badger defense. Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis struggled, completing 12 of 32 passes for just 103 yards and an interception.

For Wisconsin, the team’s confidence is soaring after a crushing 52-6 defeat of Purdue just a week prior. The game’s attendance at SHI Stadium reached 50,111, but the energy diminished significantly by the end, highlighting Rutgers’ struggles.

As for the Scarlet Knights, expectations ran high heading into the game; however, they fell short in almost every aspect. Their running game was ineffective, pass catchers failed to secure critical receptions, and an uncreative offensive game plan, coupled with a defense that faltered against the run, allowed the Badgers to exploit gaps and gain a staggering 309 rushing yards.

Looking ahead, Wisconsin will aim to extend their momentum with a matchup against Northwestern next Saturday, while Rutgers is set to take on UCLA at home.
