The owner of the Chicago White Sox, Jerry Reinsdorf, has described the team’s historically poor performance during the 2021 season as “embarrassing” and a “failure.” In a letter addressed to fans, Reinsdorf took full responsibility for the team’s record-breaking 40-121 season, the most losses by any major league club since 1900.

Reinsdorf acknowledged the disappointment felt by fans and expressed gratitude for their continued support throughout the challenging season. He emphasized that the on-field performance was unacceptable and recognized the varying reactions and emotions from the fanbase.

Chicago White Sox surpassed the post-1900 record for losses previously held by the 1962 New York Mets with a 40-120 record. The overall record for most losses in a season belongs to the 1899 Cleveland Spiders at 20-134.

As the leader of the organization since the early ’80s, Reinsdorf vowed to work diligently in the offseason to improve the team’s performance and regain the trust and support of the fans. He acknowledged the pain felt by everyone associated with the team due to the disappointing season.

Grady Sizemore, who took over as interim manager in August, remains hopeful for the future despite the team’s struggles. Sizemore pointed to the resilience shown by the Detroit Tigers, who rebounded from a 119-loss season to reach the World Series in 2006.

White Sox general manager, Chris Getz, has mentioned that Sizemore is being considered for the permanent managerial position. The organization is focused on evaluating and selecting a new manager who will provide the necessary leadership for the team in the upcoming seasons.

Reinsdorf emphasized the importance of finding a new manager and stated that the search process is already underway. He expressed confidence in Getz’s ability to identify the right candidate to lead the White Sox both on and off the field.

The Chicago White Sox organization is determined to learn from the challenges faced during the 2021 season and work towards a more successful future under new leadership.
