Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert faces a tough challenge against the Kansas City Chiefs with a restructured offensive line. Herbert is still recovering from a high right ankle sprain sustained two weeks ago. The Chargers will be without both starting offensive tackles, Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt, for Sunday’s game due to injuries.
Slater suffered a pectoral injury last week, while Alt has a sprained MCL from the previous game. Trey Pipkins moved from right guard to right tackle for this game. Sam Mustipher, brought up from the practice squad, started at right guard. Jamaree Salyer took over at left tackle, while Bradley Bozeman and Zion Johnson remained at center and left guard, respectively.
Herbert, limited in practice but participating all three days, was hindered during the last game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to repeated hits on the ankle. The Chargers are also missing linebacker Joey Bosa (hip) and safety Derwin James (suspension). Los Angeles has a challenging history against the Chiefs, having lost five consecutive games and not defeated them at home since 2013.
