NaQuari Rogers and quarterback Devon Dampier stood out as they each contributed three rushing touchdowns to the Lobos’ impressive seven-touchdown performance on the ground.
Rogers showcased his skills by accumulating 122 rushing yards on 21 carries, while Dampier displayed his versatility with 248 passing yards on a 13-of-28 completion rate, in addition to 70 yards gained from rushing attempts over eight carries. Javen Jacobs also made a notable impact by rushing for 80 yards, highlighted by a 50-yard touchdown run for New Mexico, which now stands at a 1-4 record.
The Lobos defense set the tone early in the game by forcing New Mexico State (1-4) to go three-and-out on the opening drive. The offense efficiently capitalized on this momentum, with Rogers punctuating a nine-play, 64-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown just five minutes into the matchup. Although New Mexico State responded with an 84-yard touchdown run by Larenzo McMillan on the next drive, Dampier’s two rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, accompanied by a 47-yard field goal by Abraham Montano for the Aggies, helped New Mexico secure a 21-10 lead at halftime.
The Lobos continued to dominate in the second half, with Dampier extending the lead with a 24-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the third quarter. Throughout the remainder of the game, New Mexico maintained a lead of at least 10 points, ultimately clinching the victory.
