Toronto Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube shared his optimistic outlook on Auston Matthews’ upper-body injury, reassuring fans that he believes the injury is not serious and expects Matthews to make a full recovery.
Matthews recently returned to practice after taking a couple of days off the ice for what Berube referred to as maintenance purposes. As a precaution, he was not included in the lineup for the preseason game against Montreal on Thursday.
Berube emphasized the importance of ensuring that there are no lingering injuries and that it is essential to prioritize the player’s well-being.
Auston Matthews is renowned for his exceptional performance, having led the NHL with 69 goals last season. He is currently in the initial year of a substantial $53 million contract.
The Toronto Maple Leafs appointed Matthews as their captain in August, succeeding John Tavares. Fans are eagerly anticipating the team’s regular-season opener on October 9 against the Canadiens.
Despite this setback, the Maple Leafs remain hopeful that Matthews will recuperate swiftly and be back in top form to lead the team on the ice with his remarkable skills.
