Argentina’s River Plate and Brazil’s Atletico Mineiro are set to clash in a crucial match aiming for a spot in the Copa Libertadores final. The much-anticipated game is slated to happen in Buenos Aires on November 30th.
River Plate secured their entry into this stage by edging out Chile’s Colo Colo with a 2-1 aggregate victory, following a 1-0 triumph at home. Faculdo Colidio was the hero of the match, scoring the lone goal in the 16th minute.
On the other hand, Atletico Mineiro booked their spot in the next round by defeating local rival Fluminense, the defending champions, with a convincing 2-0 win in Belo Horizonte. The goals came from substitute striker Deyverson. Despite Fluminense winning the first leg in Rio de Janeiro 1-0, Atletico Mineiro’s superior performance in the return leg secured their advancement.
In another gripping fixture, two more Brazilian teams were set to battle it out for a place in the semifinals. Sao Paulo was preparing to host Botafogo after a goalless draw in the initial leg.
The final semifinalist is to be decided on Thursday, as Uruguay’s Peñarol welcomes Brazil’s Flamengo. Peñarol caused an upset in the previous encounter by defeating Flamengo 1-0 at the Maracanã Stadium.
It is worth noting that Brazilian teams have dominated the Copa Libertadores in recent editions, clinching the title for the past five consecutive seasons. The tournament continues to showcase thrilling matches and intense competition as South America’s most prestigious club football competition.
